International Women’s Day: Looking back on the first Women in Estate Agency conference

Head of Client Onboarding

Last week, our Head of Client Onboarding at Street.co.uk Stella and Kate from the Spectre Sales team had the honour of attending the first ever conference held by the Women in Estate Agency group. To celebrate 2023’s International Women’s Day, we’re reflecting on the day, sharing our highlights and key takeaways…

Welcoming over 250 men and women from the property industry, the Women in Estate Agency Conference was completely sold out. Its purpose? To embrace and celebrate the women who make our industry so special.

If you aren’t already familiar with them, the Women in Estate Agency group was founded by two inspiring industry experts, Clare Hughes and Liana Loporto-Browne. The duo created the group during the pandemic to support members throughout the daily challenges that came with being in the industry during such a tumultuous time.

The event at Cavendish Centre last week was the first of its kind and has paved the way for future events for Women in Estate Agency and other industry-renowned groups. We were so proud to set up our Street.co.uk and Spectre stands and take the time to chat to all of the amazing women and men who attended the event!

During the event, we listened as speakers discussed a vast range of topics from redundancy to building a brand on social media. All the talks were incredibly insightful and relevant. One of our highlights, however, has to be from CEO of Moneypenny and Keynote Speaker, Joanna Swash, who shared her awe-inspiring story about how she climbed the ladder and excelled to reach new heights. There was even a panel Q&A which updated us on market activity from some of the core sectors of the property industry, including agency, lettings, and surveying.

We thought the event was unique in its personal element and, throughout the day, there were many deeply emotional moments. Stephen Brown led a talk about loss and acceptance, following the passing of his wife, and Clare Yates bravely offered a transparent discussion about her experience with sexual assault in the workplace.

"We laughed, we cried, we shared…and we set a catalyst for change”, maintained host Sarah Edmundson on her social media after the event last Thursday. The conference was an event like no other which embraced the experiences of women and men, both inside and outside of the workplace. There was such a positive and inclusive atmosphere and we were honoured to be part of it!

Throughout the entire day, it really became apparent what a powerhouse the Women in Estate Agency group is and the vast impact they have on the industry. The event wasn’t about creating a female-only space, it was about the shared experiences we have as humans and as people working together in such a wonderful industry.

Once again, we were so pleased to be offered the opportunity to represent Street.co.uk and Spectre at such an inspiring event - particularly with it being the first of its kind! It was great to be able to dedicate time in our week to focus on the women in the industry. We want to say a huge thank you to the Women in Estate Agency group for putting the event together and, of course, to all the amazing women in our industry.
